A Thought for Pentecost: Sandcastles
Last week we went to a beautiful playground and the sand had an extraordinary whiteness and quality for staying in shape without being muddy or sticky at all. And everything we made from this sand had an exquisite consistency and whatever we built stayed in shape for much longer than usual.
But no matter, how lovely and perfect it looks in shape, when we build with and on sand - it is not a lasting but a temporary shape that will crumble eventually, when exposed to the truth.
It is the same with the one holy Catholic Church - Jesus' Holy Spirit gave us seven sacraments in the Upper Room sealed in the apostolic succession, and we are building on sand, if we are giving up on His commandments as they are directly given from God. We are fools, if we think that anything outside His holy church can bring us everlasting life and fulfilment.
We might have nice websites with pretend best friends but as long as we do not meet face to face in our God-given communities and breathe life into our relationship with our
brothers and sisters in Christ in our local community we are merely hypocrits and sand castle builders. They might look pretty, and myspace and facebook and whatnot networks and societies might fulfill some basic needs for communication - but they cannot replace our true community that needs our immediate attention in our own parish and neighbourhood. If we ignore the needs of those around us, and lead instead a life of selfish desires that are encouraged by a self-serving sinful society that excuses sin with the collective committal of blasphemy and hypocrisy ('everybody does it'), then we are not keeping the spiritual church of Christ alive - we are mocking it.
Christ Jesus is our Lord and King, and He humbles Himself at every moment of our lives to serve us - He loves every soul as He knows its potential and capacity to love the soul that God has joined it with or the community it was joined with - and we all serve in varying degrees and stages in our lives, sometimes in voluntary celibacy or in holy matrimony, as all is in God's hands.
All His true followers are mostly treated by those in the world with contempt, hatred and mockery and hypocrisy and have very often given their lives for God without ever even be acknowledged for their true greatness and faithfulness - but God and Jesus and all holy souls in heaven see and hear everything, and those, who are grounded in their faith, hope and love in heaven as on earth are witnesses to every single great deed or crime, and will point the finger one way or another at the heavenly throne, whilst Jesus is recording His judgment for every single soul, and He will pass a sentence accordingly to how we have fulfilled our holy roles.
Those, who are chosen, are placed on earth in every incarnation to help the ones, who have been called to lead them back to heaven on earth, so that we can all live in unity,
neighbourly love and purity free of sin against our next of kin for eternity.
Let us fill His true church and live in the sacraments, especially His Holy Eucharist and receive eternal life - and we must be faithful to all His commandments, and if we have not
been given the gift of voluntary celibacy we must live in the sacrament of holy matrimony or in a God-given holy community and help each other to stay on the path of Jesus,
and remember He did long instruct St Paul that it is perfectly normal and God-given to have as a deacon, priest or bishop also the one and only soul joined by God in the shape and size of a holy wife or missus.
That applies to all of us, even worldly kings, and a fool, who thinks he can skip the commandments and either with the one holy Catholic church as his bride or with his spouse the wedding rings. Extra-marital affairs in any given case in religion or in the world are to the human race a disgrace and an insult to the purity of the nucleus of God's creation, the holy family, and are certainly the greatest blasphemy and proof of a fallen angel's and god's wings.
And of that also the Akathistos sings.
Stop fooling yourself with buildings of sandcastles with more or less pomp and circumstance and make sure that every single soul on earth knows that holiness and the sacraments must be lived and they start from every single kitchen hearth.
May the Infinite Light of God shine brightly upon you, keep and protect you from all evil, harm and anxiety and fill your very heart and soul with Jesus' compassion and peace.
God bless you!
